This week marks nine years of living in Colorado for me. For over 7 years, I’ve been in Denver. There has been tons of change since I moved here but one thing is consistent – there’s always so much to do!
One of my recent goals has been to try out coffee shops I haven’t been to yet. While I love my neighborhood coffee places – Mutiny, Bardo, and Cafe Europa – sometimes it’s nice to meet up with friends outside of the neighborhood. Today I tried out Little Owl Coffee in LoDo. I ordered one of my favorite drinks, a dirty chai, and was not disappointed! While I love the spicy ginger of Bhakti Chai, I’m willing to try other chais. The barista told me that they use a spicy chai from Sanctuary (which is also made in Boulder). It was a delicious drink! In addition to having beautifully-crafted, delicious beverages, we sat outside on the little patio and enjoyed watching the busy-ness of a weekday morning. If you’re in LoDo and are looking for a coffee treat, stop by Little Owl!
One of the reasons I headed downtown today was that there was an event to celebrate the opening of Sephora in the Denver Pavilions. The event was small but so Denver! There was a dj spinning some sweet dance tunes while Sephora employees walked around with trays of Voodoo donuts and little cups of milk. Denver knows how to have fun!
As I walked out of the store, there was a lovely crafted piece of art by Ladies Fancywork Society.
Being an urban dweller, despite having a car I use other modes of transportation. To avoid parking fees or having to move my car from meter to meter, I took the light rail downtown today. It’s so convenient! For my ride home I decided to try out one of the new fleet of Mercedes that Car2Go is using to replace their white and blue Smart cars. It was a fun ride but at about $10 for a 20 minute ride, I probably should have just paid for parking!
Today is First Friday! Denver rocks it with more than one First Friday event. The Art District on Santa Fe has a large concentration of galleries and is always a popular First Friday event. I saw a fun looking event as part of this month’s Santa Fe First Friday – Art Crawl for Oddities. It includes body painting by a tv celebrity and skull giveaways.
The Berkeley neighborhood has a pretty rockin’ First Friday event along Tennyson Street. There are usually opportunities to enjoy some live music as you stroll through the shops which host a variety of artists. If you end up over that way, be sure to drop by Green Door Living and say hi!
As if these events weren’t enough to fill your senses, tomorrow is Penny Day at MCA Denver!
Moral of the story: Denver is awesome – go do something!
